What is "Dragon Jane"?

"Dragon Jane is a life force!" says Bonnie Palecek, founder of the North Dakota Council on Abused Women's Services. Sometimes quirky, sometimes bold, always rooted in compassion -- Dragon Jane combines original theater, movement, music, and the spoken word to create and embody its vision of peace in this world. Collaborative and intergenerational, Dragon Jane fosters creativity and imagination in young and old alike. As Rae Abileah, national coordinator for CODEPINK has said, "Dragon Jane is a living example of the Gandhian philosophy -- 'Be the change you wish to see in the world.'"

You can read more about Dragon Jane's work with young people. You can also read more about Dragon Jane director, Karen Van Fossan, in her work as a peace playwright and author.

Reviews of Dragon Jane

"I thought I was in New York!"

-Michelle Steinwand, Founder, WomanSong

"Our evaluations keep coming in: 'We love Dragon Jane!'"

-Fargo Fall Festival

"Dragon Jane is a living example of the Gandhian philosophy -- 'Be the change you wish to see in the world.' These women aren’t just talking about peace—they’re walking, leaping, acting, spiraling, and embodying peace. Dragon Jane’s creative, upbeat, and emotive performances will illuminate the hearts of kids, the young at heart, and our wise elders."

-Rae Abileah, national coordinator, CODEPINK Women for Peace, San Francisco, CA

"Dragon Jane is a boldly outrageous collective of women who dance what few people dare to speak, be it in-your-face truth, in-your-heart sensitivity, or in your soul search for understanding – you’ll find that ‘Aha!’ moment and smile."
-Bonnie Torrance, director, Pinwheel Creative Movement Center

"Dragon Jane taps into powerful ancient depths and provides and equally prophetic voice for what we can reach for as women in the 21st century. Dragon Jane is a life force. To experience 'Her' is to reawaken hope and rediscover Spirit."

-Bonnie Palecek, founder, ND Council on Abused Women's Services
